Ad-Hoc Support

Opportunities to Get Involved

Session Ops Team Member

Ideal Start Date: August 1st, 2024 (or before)

Minds Matter Bay Area (MMBay) is an education nonprofit that connects driven and determined high school students from low-income families with the people, preparation, and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world.

Session Ops team members collaborate with site leadership on successful execution of support activities for Minds Matter Bay Area mentees, who are current high school students. This primarily involves lunch and other site-specific supports such as check-in or setup/cleanup and monitoring and support of any ad-hoc issues.

This is a great opportunity for volunteers looking to further the MMBay mission in a student-facing role without the requirement to be in-person at every session. The session ops team ensures mentees have a smooth experience at session. Reliability and strong communication are vital to this role.

The Session Ops volunteer will be responsible for:

  • Lunch

    • Plan and order lunch for Saturday sessions and MMBay special events

    • Coordinate and execute on-site lunch prep, setup, service, and clean-up

    • Develop local food vendor relationships and/or DIY meal options that meet nutritional guidelines and students’ dietary needs

  • Coordinating Check-in (San Francisco only)

    • Ensure check-in shifts are filled by MMBay Associate Board members

  • Setup, clean up, and monitoring (San Jose only)

    • Monitoring the front desk includes a variety of tasks such as directing mentees and volunteers to the correct classroom, sending email follows for program-related questions, and providing a light level of security (students stay for the entire session and strangers aren’t allowed in)

An ideal volunteer candidate would be someone that is:

  • Highly reliable

  • Proactive in communications

We anticipate this role will require both in-person and remote work with ~1-4 hours per session (in-person) with approximately 1 session per month and remotely ~1 hour per week.
