Meet Erin
Erin Nielsen
Senior Mentee Engagement Lead
Meet our dedicated volunteer, Erin Nielsen! For the past three years, Erin has served as a mentor for the students of Minds Matter San Francisco. After her mentee graduates this year, Erin will be stepping into the Junior Mentoring Lead role.
Beginning their sophomore year of high school, our incredible students are matched with mentors who work with them to discover, plan, and ready themselves for college. This includes building a strong, trusting, and empathetic relationship with their mentors. Our mentors serve as positive role models and catalysts for the students, encouraging them to fulfill their full potential.
What Is Your Favorite Minds Matter Memory? In my first semester with Minds Matter, my trio went to Chrissy Field to fly kites with another trio after session. It was really encouraging to see my mentee come out of her shell and show her true personality!
What Is a Fun Fact About You? I host trivia at a local bar (Jackalope on Polk) every Thursday night!
What Does Minds Matter Mean to You? Minds Matter is a way for me to be engaged with my local community, which is especially important to me because I moved here for work. It's also how I choose to pay it forward—my parents were instrumental in guiding me to the place I'm at today, and I want to do the same for others.
How Did You Hear About Minds Matter? I googled "high school mentorship San Francisco" on a rainy February day in 2019 and impulse-applied (great decision!)
